Shiny question. (Should be easy for you guys)

Alright I have a small question.

I have a legit heartgold and a downloaded Platinum on my r4.

I caught a ponyta in my heartgold and all I want to do is make it shiny.

So I transfered it to the platinum and opened it with Pokesav. How do I set it to shiny? Do I just have to keep generating codes in the PID/IV generator until I get a shiny code?

Hook your ar to your computer
Open up the ponyta again
Change it to shiny
Click ok
Select write bbme-if
It will directly write the shininess to the game and will keep the legit staus of the ponyta
