Hey everybody.

I was wondering what tools I would need to edit the contents of .narc files and such that are found in the ROM data when you open a ROM in Nitoexplorer2.

I want to know this because I want to do this:

|I want to extend the default Japanese input limit from 5 JPN Characters to 7 ENG Characters(HG/SS Name Input Default US Limit)|

I know that I will require these tools so far:

A Hex Editor (For editing extracted NARC contents)

NitroExplorer (For extracting/replacing ROM contents)

My first goal is to have the 7 Character Limit work.

After I have the 7 Character Limit working fully I will want to change the JPN English Character page with with the US English Characters. (I assume the US Font exists in the ROM because if you add a Pokemon with a English name from HG/SS/D/P/PL the text uses the English Font and not in the Japanese-English Font..)

My Final Goal would be to change the Max Character limit on Pokemon Nickname imput from 5 to 10

Don't bother saying that it is not possible because it is. I just need to know what tools/research I would need to do this.

If I can successfully pull this off, I may have a possible contribution to the Pokemon B/W English Translation by Kazowar.

There is one problem though, someone ripped all of the sprites that use that would use that function in Black and White.

The follow Pokemon sprites only range from 001 to 493, you would need to change the index of sprites and have sprites create walking sprites for the remaining 100+ Pokemon.

Ow, too much reading.

I guess if you wanted legit shiny Pokemon that this is the way to go, but I find it much easyer and less brain cell overloading just to use POKESAV and edit the Hidden HEX to make the game's engine to register it as Legit.

I am interested in hacking the 4th gen to the point so that we can do what we do the the 3rd gen games.

You know, Script, Sprite, Map, World Map, Map Name, Music, Graphic, and Pokemon Editing.

I want to research this and start hacking the game but I don't know what programs I need and where to start.

I am not in High School anymore and I am also not currently in college, so I have alot of free time on my hands unlike all you other college hackers that only spend like 2 minutes before you have to cram study for exams.

I am looking into a future of game design and testing.

I would like to work for a big gaming company like Ubisoft some day.

I use an Acekard 2i for my DS games and I currently do not have a "MAIN HUB" Pokemon game set.

What I mean by MAIN HUB is like in the 3rd Gen games EMERALD was the MAIN HUB game where I had all 386 Pokemon at Lv: 100 etc.

I think I might make two Main Hub games for the 4th gen, Platinum and Soul Silver.

By the way...I AM NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW POKEMON HG/SS ANTI-PIRACY IN THE USA GAMES! :mad:

I hope you add the ability to edit the maps(The 3D Levels),Overworld Map(The MAP function of the game that displays the locations), and music soon.

I want to re-make Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald.

Hey, why doesn't somebody completely translate this game. I mean, when the English version, there will be a more powerful anti-piracy program so, why not completely translate the game now so people do not belly-ache about their English Pokemon not working.

I may be able to help as well. Fix some spelling and context mistakes, (Like the S.S. Ticket says S.S. Anne when the ship is called the S.S. Aqua)

I have an interest in hacking the 4th Gen Pokemon Games, especially Heart Gold and Soul Silver.

I have a plain for a hack that makes HG/SS the Remakes of Ruby Sapphire and Emerald.

I don't know if it would be called a hack, or a remake.

I also like HALO, DRAGON QUEST, FINAL FANTASY, and LEGEND OF ZELDA.

I am not Japanese, I just like to use Japanese words sometimes...

*The only things keeping me from creating the remakes of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald are;

1*The Lack of Tools that allow full editing of a 4th Gen ROM[i.E. Add Scripts, Events, Maps, Wild Pokemon, Create/Insert Music, Create/Insert Custom 3D Models, Etc.]

2*The lack of programing knowledge to create such tools/programs.
