misfitcorrupt Posted October 21 Posted October 21 My brother recently started getting a message on Pokemon Red saying "The File Data is Destroyed" / taking him to a main menu screen with no continue button. He is playing on an authentic Pokemon Red cartridge, had its battery replaced within the last 2 years, and playing on a regular Gameboy Color. I have a GB Operator, so I downloaded a backup copy of the game / his save, and can verify that it will continue to give that message even when I try to play it on mGBA. I cannot open the save on PKHeX, and I tried to open it with a Hex Editor (HxD) but I have zero experience with it, so all that I could really tell is that the save file looks really off when compared to other test save files that I either made myself or downloaded to try and compare. I attached the save file here - would someone be able to tell me if this is recoverable at all? Pokemon - Red Version (USA, Europe) (SGB Enhanced).sav
razielleonhart Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Save file may be just gone. I got this message on a used copy of Pokemon Red as well and it was a dead battery that killed the save.
misfitcorrupt Posted October 27 Author Posted October 27 yeah that would be very unfortunate, from my understanding the game just kinda shut itself off / crashed while in-game and he got the message once he tried to play again. It is odd for it to continue to give the message with a dead battery, since i assumed that the dead battery would just lead straight to the new game screen / without the message.
