How to replace music in BW1?

I've been trying to replace the music in black version for a while, but every time I try to load the replaced music it the game, the audio remains silent. I tried following the few decade-old tutorials I could find, but none of them seems to help. I'm not sure whether I'm doing something wrong or one of the programs is broken.
