Pokemon Gen 4 question

I have played almost every core game except Platinum/D/P and have done some challenge runs for fun on them too. My gf got me a copy of Platinum for christmas and I can't wait to play it. The thing is that I am torn between my first time being casual, or doing a nuzlocke immediately. I am curious about others thoights on which could be a better, and or more fun, first impression of the game and how come?
