mega form checkbox with oras saves

To be honest I was never to sure how this functionality worked or meant to work. But, is it working as intended for pokemon in your party to not being able to retain their mega forms? From what I saw after testing, changing pokemon to mega form, if the pokemon stayed in the bank it will retain permanent mega form, but as soon as I take it out of pc and in my party, if I were to restart the game, the pokemon goes back to normal form. Also tests are done in oras. Any clarification is appreciated, thanks.
