Black and white save editing? - can't do it!

EDIT:: Never mind, I got it. I was putting my pokegen'd pokemon in my party, where it was getting all weird. If I put them into my PC it works fine.

I was trying to hack up a Haxorus (it literally has 'Hax' in it's name, how do they expect me to get it?) in pokesav, and it crashed my game. So I restarted, and tried to use pokegen to hack up an axew to replace my Snivy, and it showed up as a ? in a circle, with the name '??????????'.

Basically, i'm asking,

• what am I doing wrong?
  
• is there another way?

btw, i'm using an R4 running wood, if that has anything to do with anything.
