</center>

<p>
	Presently, it's been reported that users that mod their 3DSs (regardless Arm9LoaderHax or Boot9Strap) have been affected by a <strong>002-0102 ban</strong>.<br><br>
	A ban of this error code is not new, with the most notable instance being when <em>users went online with Pokemon Sun and Moon</em> pre-launch.<br>
	Users with this ban are able to access <em>e-Shop</em>, but won't be able to access their <em>Friends list</em>, and also not able to connect online with games.<br>
	This ban is different from <a href="https://projectpokemon.org/home/forums/topic/40505-known-causes-of-pgl-bans/" rel="">a simple Game-Sync/PGL ban</a>; this ban affects and limits all games' online-play connectivity.<br><br>
	It is not known if this is an indiscriminate blanketed banwave against all Custom Firmware (CFW) users,<br>
	or whether there is a underlying mechanic responsible for this.<br><br>
	While we are unaware whether users with CFW already have their information captured by Nintendo's servers,<br>
	recommended actions are:
</p>

<ol>
<li>
		Don't attempt any online play.
	</li>
	<li>
		Keep your 3DS Network Switch "OFF"
	</li>
	<li>
		Do not attempt to bypass the Ban (we don't know if it'll lead to more severe action)
	</li>
	<li>
		Wait patiently for any findings (may take weeks)
	</li>
</ol>
<p>

</p>

<p>
	<br><strong>Updated:</strong> For those that want to risk the pesky ban, these safeguards below <em>could</em> work.<br>
	[we are not responsible if it doesn't; this only applies to people who aren't banned.]

</p>

<p>
	<span>Pokémon video games are played worldwide.  In fact, as of March, <i>Pokémon X &amp;Y</i> is the top seller for the Nintendo 3DS console by having sold 16.11 million units.  Coming in second with 15.44 million units sold is Game Freak’s latest game: <i>Pokémon Sun &amp; Moon</i>.  Released near the end of 2016, <i>Pokémon Sun &amp; Moon</i> has been the center piece for this season’s competitive battling.</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>For months, Trainers all around the world have been attending events such as; Global Link battles, Premier Challenges, Midseason Showdowns, Pokémon Regionals, and the much anticipated Pokémon International Championships to earn enough Championship Points (CP) in order to get invited to the <a href="https://projectpokemon.org/home/calendar/event/7-pok%C3%A9mon-2017-world-championships/?csrfKey=f64a06c39557d869fa0cc40e4a48fcf7" rel="">2017 Pokémon World Championships</a>.  Battles are comprised of teams of four; subjecting Trainers to the double battle format using only the Alola Pokédex.</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>With the International Challenges already being a third of the way finished, Trainers are busy refining and analyzing their strategies and possibly their teams before they battle in the <a href="https://projectpokemon.org/home/calendar/event/6-2017-north-american-international-championships/" rel="">2017 North American International Championships</a>. This is the last stop where Trainers can earn more CP before the Pokémon World Championships.  The World VGC is an invite only event; players that have earned top ranks in each rating zone and have the most CP will receive an invitation. </span>
</p>

<p>

<p style="color:#272a34">
	Because of past PGL ban waves (and <a href="https://projectpokemon.org/home/forums/topic/40501-brace-yourself-another-ban-wave-is-coming/" rel="">a potential future one</a>), many are wondering if they can edit save files safely. The safest option is to simply not hack or to not use game sync, although some minor edits may be safe. The problem is that it is unclear on what the bans were based, and the Pokémon company hasn't exactly volunteered this information.
</p>

<p style="color:#272a34">
	Here are the known causes of PGL bans:
</p>

<ul style="color:#272a34">
<li>
		Getting 999 of every item (it's possible the bans are from a sub-set of items)
	</li>
	<li>
		Making illegal changes to Pokémon between game syncs
	</li>
	<li>
		Illegal Pokédex entries
	</li>
	<li>
		Items in the incorrect Bag Pocket
	</li>
	<li>
		Changing anything in the save that is static (like OT, Gender, Language, etc.)
	</li>
	<li>
		Getting all clothing (there's been mixed reports about this)
	</li>
</ul>
<p style="color:#272a34">
	We have not received any reports of banning due to receiving hacked Pokémon in trades. Making other edits <em>might</em> be safe, but only as long as the result could have been accomplished without hacks given more effort.
</p>

<p style="color:#272a34">
	By hacking your save file, you accept full responsibility of any consequences such as being banned. If you <em>are</em> banned, however, we would appreciate your input so we can learn more.

	According to the Japanese Pokémon Global Link website[1] as reported by Serebii.net[2],<br>
	7,651 more players have been hit with the <em>090-0212</em> ban wave, after being detected of having a modified game save.

<p>
	This ban bars users from accessing Online Play services (Game Sync, Battle Competitions, Rating Battles, Global Missions).

	Once again, The Pokémon Company has announced that they will continue their pursuit against people with edited save data.[1,2]<br><br>
	If you are affected by the ban, please let us know what kinds of edits you made,<br>
	so we can get a better idea what The Pokémon Company is looking for.

	Nintendo has released update <strong>11.3.0-36</strong>.  It patches safehax, so if you do not have CFW installed, <strong>do not update</strong> if you wish to install it (instructions can be found <a href="https://3ds.guide/" rel="external nofollow">here</a>).  Without CFW, updating will prevent you from using save editors like PKHeX or ROM hacks until homebrew is updated.

<p>
	Banned users will see error code <strong>090-0212</strong>.[1,2]
</p>

<p>
	The Pokémon Company has announced that they will continue their pursuit against people with edited save data.[1,2]

<p>
	Battle videos recorded before applying the update are incompatible with this patch and will be unplayable after installing it.
</p>

<p>
	With regards to game hacking, this may break ROM hacks, depending on whether or not the ROM hack modified the game's executable.  If you are playing such a ROM hack, you will either need to refrain from updating or wait for the author to update the hack.  Save editors like PKHeX are unaffected.

<p>
	Until now, anyone with an 11.2 3DS would either need to get a hard mod or find an already-hacked 3DS in order to reliably manage save files for use with PKHeX or play ROM hacks.  These requirements are no longer applicable thanks to the 33c3 conference revealing several 3DS exploits today.  Here are some highlights of its findings as it relates to the 3DS:
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote="">
	<div class="ipsQuote_citation">
		Quote
	</div>

	<div class="ipsQuote_contents ipsClearfix">
		<ul>
<li>
				Soundhax - Excellent, convenient, and free userland primary that hacks the built in sound application with just an MP3 on the sd card. Will be released soon according to nedwill.
			</li>
		</ul>
<ul>
<li>
				Fasthax - New arm11 kernel expoit (like memchunkhax, waithax, etc.) also by nedwill. Works on latest firm and should be released soon just like Soundhax. Should allow nfirm downgrading on latest firm when more advanced dsiware injection techniques are released very soon.
			</li>
		</ul>
<ul>
<li>
				Method to dump arm9 bootrom detailed by derrek. Hash given as proof. The same technique has been worked on for months already by #Cakey devs, so this will likely take quite a bit more time for a public dump to show up. One benefit of bootrom dumping is faster PC based crypto stuff instead of slow 3ds methods. The second benefit is the next exploit:
			</li>
		</ul>
<ul>
<li>
				Sighax - The big one. Flaw discovered in the bootrom's RSA parsing process of the 3ds's firmware partition. This will allow us to sign our own custom firm and no more having to do risky downgrades and 100 step guides to get the OTP. Unfortunately, we need a bootrom dump to implement this and that is an issue, see above bullet point for why. You will also still need a way to actually write to system NAND, and even k11 hax usually isn't enough for that. Hardmod is also an option, but it's expensive and inconvenient. That should always be an option, at least, given sighax itself is unpatchable without hardware revision.
			</li>
		</ul>
</div>
</blockquote>

<p>
	If you read either of our save management guides (<a href="https://projectpokemon.org/home/forums/topic/39587-how-to-backuprestore-nds-saves/" rel="">NDS</a> or <a href="https://projectpokemon.org/home/forums/topic/39584-how-to-backuprestore-your-3ds-saves/" rel="">3DS</a>) and needed to purchase additional hardware, you are advised to <strong>wait until these exploits are released </strong>before actually buying anything.  While your purchase would likely still do what you want it to do, free alternatives are coming soon.
