Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let's Go Eevee

    Cecillia

The Pokémon Company held a press conference, and some new Pokémon games were announced! For this year, the games that are on the horizon are main series games with Pokémon Go elements, and features some returning mechanics. Additionally, new core series games were reported to be released in the second half of 2019. The pair of games for this year prominently feature Pikachu and Eevee, and use a graphical coloring style not seen with other core series games.

During this sudden unannounced press conference from the Pokémon Company, alongside a spin-off game titled Pokémon Quest, this year's core series games were revealed to be titled Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let's Go Eevee. These games are for the Nintendo Switch and feature an all new graphical coloring style, though it is notable that it reverted back to a chibi-style for character models. In an interview, it has been revealed that the games will only support the original 151 Pokémon and their Alolan forms. An interview also revealed that during a portion in the trailer where the Switch games send a gift over to Pokémon Go, that gift was actually a never before seen new Pokémon. However, it is not clear presently if this new Pokémon itself is supported by the Let's Go games. (For example, the first Ranger game was capable of giving away a Manaphy Egg as a gift, while the game itself could not use the Manaphy)

One of the goals for these new games, was to make it easier for people to catch Pokémon, as the target audience was Go players, younger players and casual players. An example of such a change, was the removal of the ability to battle wild Pokémon (note: wild encounters still happen), though important to note that players can still battle trainers the classical way. The games will take place in Kanto and was inspired by Pokémon Yellow, which came out in 1998 in Japan. Other features include the ability to ride Pokémon, as well as the new addition of a co-op mode that allows for a second player to join the game by using a second Joy-Con. During co-op mode, both players can throw Poké Balls at the same time, and battle together via double battles. Besides this, players can send Pokémon from Pokémon Go to a special Park in the games and play with the transferred Pokémon.

Another announcement made during the press conference, featured a new peripheral: the Poké Ball Plus. With the Poké Ball Plus, players can take a Pokémon from their games into the real world by storing the Pokémon into the Poké Ball Plus, not dissimilar to the Pokéwalker dongle released together with Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver. Furthermore, the Poké Ball Plus can be used as a Pokémon Go Plus peripheral. The new core series game is slated to be released in the second half of 2019, being developed concurrently with the Let's Go games. It is not known if these presently unnamed games would be an entry under generation 8, though it was reported that the unnamed 2019 games would go back to classical mechanics, as opposed to the Go mechanics seen in the Let's Go games.

Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu & Let's Go Eevee will be released worldwide November 16, 2018.

Happy of this. But i can also udnerstand why pepole are worry about this game, especilay becouse (for make even more easy) they took away many thing not just random encounters. But ehy visualy i liked, it almos make me feels im inside of one episode from the anime and is fine for me. Im only a bit disappointed about the fact that my Eevee will never be able to evolve in Flareon. O well you can get evreything i suppose.

If i understand correctly the core pokemon game for the fan (and competetive battlers fans) will be relase in 2019. So if this are the premese for the new generation in terms of visual....we are up to a good start in my eye at the very least.

Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu & Pokémon Let's Go Eevee are games of the core series. They're made by GameFreak, they're Pokémon RPGs with core elements of the main series and they're basically can be seen as a remake of Pokémon Yellow.

I personally do like the concept of Let's Go Pikachu & Pokémon Let's Go Eevee, because I love Pokémon since Day 1 and started with the RGBY generation back in the days and I do like the idea to go back to enjoy the game again, this time with a different kind of gameplay experience instead of having the game remade with the same experience. Because after all these years I must admit that Pokémon has become a bit stale by staying too close to the original game. So I personally welcome every change that is refreshing the series, even though I admit that the changes that were made are not the ones I was hoping for. I'm at the point were I accept every change just to see something different.

I think Let's Go is something like a fusion between the old Pokémon game and Pokemon Go and I do think it's clever considering the undeniable HUGE success of Pokémon Go and all the buzz it had and even from a gaming perspective, we can see that Pokémon Go has a lot of potential. There was actually a point when it was first announced where I thought... "Wow... this could be the next Level of Pokémon." because, one of the things that made Pokémon so special is how it brought people together and made almost everyone talking about it and Pokémon Go did that like the original games did in the past. I must say tho' that I haven't played Pokémon Go myself and I'm not a fan of Pokémon Go the way it is. The reasons for it are simply because I miss some mandatory Pokémon features for interacting with other Players, like battling with friends and trading and more ways to cooperate. And I always told myself I will play Pokémon Go as soon as features like these will be added... which until now didn't happened unfortunately... lol... so I never played it. But I might get interested in the Let's Go Games and I can imagine that it's fun. Wouldn't be surprised if there are more features we don't know about yet.

For Gen 8 I want to see changes as well, but I would like to see a kind of evolution comparable to what happened to Zelda with Breath of the Wild or with Mario and Super Mario Odyssey. I hope they went back to drawing board, asking themselves what they tried to create 20 years ago when they first created Pokémon and how they would do it now without all the technical limitations and without staying too close to the original core. I want Pokémon to feel like it's a modern game and let's be honest, Pokémon is still the same game that was made for the Game Boy in the 90s and it was impressing for an RPG on the Game Boy, but a game for Nintendo Switch should be able to do more. So I'm all for surprises and Creatures were looking for 3DCG Designer who is experienced with Unity or Unreal Engine 4, which sounds promising and sounds at least like they're experimenting to push the series forward.

Let's not forget that Pokémon is the philosophy of a young Satoshi Tajiri who went out catching and collecting bugs and I personally would like to see that philosophy coming to life in a deeper way, instead of just copying + pasting that Pokémon formular 1:1 with each game. My dream is a Pokémon Game that has more depth in gameplay... more different ways to catch and to interact with Pokémon and I hope they think about how to eliminate the monotony and the repetitiveness of always doing the same things over and over. Maybe some new (MMO like) multiplayer-features to play together would be cool and an overhauled battle system. Everything that redefines Pokémon is a welcome surprise to me. I'm really holding my breath for Gen 8... because if nothing changes now, it never will. At least the Let's go games giving me hope that we will finally see some changes. :)

i actually can not wait for this to come out i mean i can not imagine on what it will be like to play a Pokemon game on the Nintendo switch it will be so fun and so cool. i just hope that they will release new Pokemon soon. but however i really do like the game tittle as well to be called let's go pikachu and let's  go eevee they are both adorable  Pokemon i by just adding that you can put clothes on them makes them even more amazing game to play as well. but i also like the concept where two players can play the game as well i always wanted that and to link it to Pokemon go game as well makes it better. :PSMD-Amazed::PSMD-Cheerful::VWheel:

Noticed that Pikachu's model has a half-heart, half-square tail, the male character has a female look to him, while Sugimori's art for the female character shows her as having a boyish face... This sounds to me like they are being gender-tolerant! Yay Nintendo for undoing the Trans Azumarill verdict!

Based on  Demo Pikachu's stats  we can conclude this will be a new form like AZ Floette.

This also explain why special Pikachu cannot be imported from GO.

Same also must apply for Eevee.

    Thanks @haricottv for the finding.

    Also wild starters confirmed.

Assuming everything falls into place on the developers side with CFW, PKHeX, the research into the data structures, generation methods, etc, we should be able to create GO Pokemon in Let's Go's GO Park portion of the save, correct?

This isn't a huge deal for me in regards to Generation 1/Kanto Pokemon, as I've been able to catch them all. But starting with Generation II/Johto, that's been a different story. I haven't been able to find a single Unown and raids don't seem to be of interest to anyone around here anymore. Meaning I wasn't able to snag Suicune, Ho-Oh or any of the Generation 3 Legendaries. That'll be less of a problem is all of them cycle through the Research, but if it's only the weaker sub-legends, then there will still be gaps in my collection. There's also those pesky Regional Exclusives...

So I rather just inject the fakes in later games and capture them for my personal collection.

@Michael J. Caboose I don't see why not, everything to make that possible already exists. It's possible to backup and restore save games on the Switch and datamine games. Theirs already save editors for certain games out there and it's even possible to bring your Wii U save of Zelda: Breath of the Wild over to the Switch.

Why inject fakes though? similar to the Gen 3 events where we have been preserving legit event Pokemon, the same can be done for Pokemon from Go. Myself, @theSLAYER and a couple of others are already interested in putting together a living Pokedex of legit Pokemon from Go.

In later generations i'm missing a few myself too. Suicune and Entei from Gen 2 and Groudon from Gen 3. Hopefully by the time we can transfer these to future games everyone will have them thanks to research tasks though. I suspect you should be able to level theses up a lot easier on the Lets Go games too.

For regional exclusives i'm sure people on here would happily trade them with each other. I'm hoping someone form the US can trade me a unique Tauros as that's the only regional Gen 1 we've had no event for in the UK yet, it's also the last Gen 1 I need.

Either way anyone here interested in Pokemon stuff on the Switch should buy one sooner, rather than later. Every Switch out in the wild today is hackable and always will be regardless of the firmware version it's on. However Nintendo will release an updated hardware revision which patches the RCM exploit, theirs already references to this in later firmware updates, so it's just a matter of time.

I'm OCD about certain elements of my collections. When possible, I prefer to have specific Poke Balls, my OT, etc. While we don't know exactly how the transfer process will work yet, we do know that choosing to complete the transfer to Let's Go alters the data of the GO Pokemon to account for the data differences between the two game types. Depending on how much of the data is actually changed (if it's similar to the Gen I & II Bank transfer, where it's almost completely making a whole new Pokemon) I rather just fill in some data fields with the fake info and let the game do its business and not care too much if the GO Pokemon matches a legitimate spawn down to the correct coordinates if that data wont be retained afterward.

I'll of course use whatever legitimate Pokemon I've caught to bring over to the park first. The fakes would only be to fill in gaps I wasn't able to get. They wouldn't be for trade or anything else, so something legal like that would be "legit" enough for my own needs.

@caboose presently it is not known what data is changed or retained.

Given the E3 video showed players using Standard Balls to catch the Go Park imports,
I'm under the impression that it's Balls won't be retained. Who knows if moves would be retained..

Yeah, I get the feeling it'll probably be more akin to the Gen I & II Bank transport based off that. So long as it's not just to serve as some kind of placeholder, similar to the Pal Park balls without confusing the casuals. The less data retained from the GO Pokemon, the less I'll feel bad if I need to inject a fake.

For one, I myself think these changes will legitimize me as a pokemon fan about as much as adding myself into a romhack would... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I am looking forward to these games, even tho I would prefer gen 4 remakes a lot more. I am going to get the Eevee version.
