  1. My friend has started a project he calls NDSCracker. Simply put, the NDS ROMs don't have a completely-defined documentation all together in one place. Lots of data on The Project Pokémon techdocs? Certainly. Good data across several forums? Yes. Over 80% of the ROM completely described in just one spot online? Not yet. This is our goal, but we only have six people actively working all of this out. We need the help of the ROM hacking community.

We need more people ready to break down the NDS gen IV ROMs - specifically Platinum - and document it well, otherwise Pokémon ROM hacking might be permanently stuck in gen III. Sure FireRed is beautiful, but why not we go further? People like mikelan98 have proven just how much can be done with enough effort in gen IV, and he's also contributed a considerable amount of data (in Spanish, but hey - data's data).

If you'd like to contribute to the project, or even just watch from the sidelines and screw around with the team, please join us on Discord.

  2. Browsing the PP wiki, I noticed that there's pages dedicated to the save file structure of all the NDS Pokemon games, as well as an explanation of the file system for all of HG, SS, B, W, B2, and W2. File system pages are also available for X, Y, OR, and AS. However, I didn't see any pages regarding the D/P/Pt file system. If anyone knows a lot about it, could they perhaps create a page for it, or at least provide me with a run-down of files the can be and are worth editing?

    Thanks,

  3. So you're trying to convert a BRSTM so that it can be used in an SDAT file?

If that's the case, you'd first want to convert the BRSTM file to a Wave file. VGMStream can do this.

Unfortunately, BRSTM files contain a variant of PCM (basically raw sound data), while most SDAT files contain trackers (basically a specific kind of midi file using their own samples instead of default instruments). The main Gen 4 Pokemon games are like this, so I don't think there is a good way to convert BRSTM for use in Gen 4 Pokemon games. There may be sites that can convert wave files and the like to midi, but I don't know how reliable they'd be, since I've never used them.

Here's some links that may be useful if you have a midi file you want to use in Gen 4 Pokemon games. They might contain dead links or images, but might point you in the right direction.

Oh thanks you! This seems to be what I was looking for! :D

There's only one instance of there being streamed music in the DS Pokémon games and it's the B2/W2 title screen.

You'll have to use midis for anything else as mentioned above. I don't know if you could sample a whole song in PCM as people have done with the GBA games.

    Really? Interesting...

  4. Sorry, can't help you there.

Not that I know of, but then again I'm more into the ram side of the games. The reason for the FireRed guides is because there were several expansive romhacks using firered as a base.

If all else fails, try asking around gbatemp.

Alright, thanks anyway. I'll head onto GBATemp then, since I haven't found help at PokeCommunity nor at Pokemon Forever

  5. Yeah, that definitely helps, thanks! Now I know Roland intended to make a guide directory and one of the other mods intended to clean up his link dump (although neither of these things ever happened), so now I ask this: what tools would I need to do the following.

    • Add/edit/remove scripts*
    • Move things around (to effectively create a new region)
    • Make/add new models
    • Edit sprites
    • Edit movesets
    • Edit typings
    • Edit what Pokemon are what levels where
    • Edit NPC Pokemon
    • Edit text
    • Make long-gone events usable and/or add new ones**

*What language does the game use?

**Basically I just mean what tool do I need to fully, completely, 100% manipulate events as a whole - adding, editing, removing, etc.

  6. That pretty much sounds perfect. I know the game removes him from the cave at that point, so replacing him with the ball probably sounds like the easiest option ..... if possible. If you can let me know about the feasibility of that, that would be great.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately, that's about as much as I can do. Without knowledge of the language the game uses, what already exists, and even if script mods are feasible, I can't help much further. Sorry

  7. I'm not certain about most of this for various reasons, but I might be able to help with that last one IF it's possible to add, delete, and/or modify scripts in the game. If so, I may be able to get the game to wait until Red is defeated, then replace him with the GS Ball as an item. It may be a stretch, however, but first i'll need to know if script manipulation as described is possible

  8. So I had a wild idea recently - a Pokemon Platinum ROM hack that would use very little from the original game - just the Pokemon, stats, typing (basic stuff, if ya get me), and the engine - and make the rest all unique. I'm thinking custom scripting, custom region that connects to every region from every Pokemon game from 5th gen and back. I basically want to make my own Pokemon game with Platinum as a base

But here's the issue: I have absolutely no clue if it's even possible. If it is, I don't know where to start. So here's what I need from he community:

    1) Is this possible? If so, go to 2; else, go to 4

    2) What limitations would I have, if any?

    3) What tools would I need to do this? (end list)

    4) What would I need to make a fan game this massive? Keep in mind that I'm nearly broke

    Thank you!~

  9. How can I tell weather or not I patched the game correctly? It says patched in the name, but I can't find the man who gives you the Event Pokémon in the Mart.

According to WillMoff, "The Rival has a level 6 starter, not a level 5, thats how you know."

My question: I see that the only download's for challenger Edition - what about regular? (I like the easy games pls no hurt me)

  10. Simple explanation: the emerald equivalent of Roland's Perfect Platinum

Why Culminating Emerald for the name? The Gen III regional dex has 202 Pokemon in it. 202 in hex is CE. Culminating means "at the peak of development." Culminating Emerald is CE.

Essentially my idea for this ROM hack is a version of Pokemon Emerald where you:

-catch all National Dex Pokemon (including events)

--have some pokemon (such as Deoxys, Rayquaza, Kyogre, Groudon, maybe the Eon Duo, etc.) forced as shinies (if possible. I know it wasn't for Roland's PP mod, but this is a different game)

    -start with the National Dex

-have a more balanced, fair game

--have the second May/Brendan battle not be harder than Geometry Dash's Theory of Everything 2 level (seriously that fight's crazy)

    --dial down the leveling curve

---and maybe have a buffed version for the hardcores?

You get the point. Now that you see what the mod would offer, hopefully you understand the choice of the word culminating - it's Emerald at its peak.

Maybe someday this'll happen. I'd do it myself if I had the tools, time, knowledge, and patience, but I don't have those things per the situation.

  11. I made a SoulSilver randomization earlier this week and called it the greatest ever. I was very wrong, because just now for Pkmn White, I made something better. Open the spoiler for some of the things this has to offer, but remember: it's in a spoiler for a good reason. The .rndp file can be found here.

    • Kyurem as a Psychic/Dark starter
    • Lumineon as a Ghost type featuring Blue Flare
    • Ground-type Dugtrio with Freeze Shock
    • Both Lumineon and Dugtrio, as well as a Happiny (among others) can be found on Route 1

  12. My ideas up to 1:17

    1) try to put your webcam closer to your face. Not a must by any means, but when I see a webcam corner I associate it with being from the mid-bottom of the neck to just over the top of the hair.

    2) lower the volume of your voice, and put more into the game. for a voice:game ratio, 50:50 to 40:60 is usually pretty good (I believe)

    3) I love the overlay. 9/10, fantastic.. You could've picked a better font for the "Liquid Crystal Nuzlocke" text and the pokeballs could use some downscaling (to add space bwteen them and the game/bottom of the video), but to be frank, I really don't care :P

Other than that, not much I have to say. Remember that I only watched the first 1:17 of the video for various reasons.

Also, this should probably go in the G/S/C Discussion forum.

    Hope I helped, ~wundr

EDIT: Also, why that certain picture of Misty on the thumbnail? Has it anything to do with the episode? If it doesn't, don't put it there. Unnecessary images in thumbnails can be more misleading than you'd think ;)

  13. I don't know if this is the best place to put this or not. If any mods/admins want to move it to a more suitable location, be my guest.

    Hello Pokenerds!

So recently I was trying to make a hilariously fun SoulSilver randomization via the Universal Pokemon Randomizer, and made what could possibly be the greatest thing ever. No screenshots yet (as I was in a hurry to post this), but the file's here.

To use it, open the randomizer and select the Premade Seed option. For the Preset File, navigate to the .rndp you just downloaded. Random Seed and Config String will be filled in for you, and it will say that a SoulSilver ROM is required. So at the bottom, choose your SS ROM and click Apply Randomization Settings and save it as a new file. The program will do the rest for you.

I hope you enjoy the greatness that is... this... and I'll see ya next time!

  14. Those are 3DS flashcarts which actually cannot run NDS games. I'd still recommend the R4i 3DS Gold model. Here is the NDS version of that chart: http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Flashcart_Comparison_Chart

    Oh WOW I failed miserably...

Anyways thanks for the help. I'll be looking into it all and I can only hope that the flashcarts can run Perfect Platinum better than DeSmuME can...

Also, totally off topic, I believe I'm correct in saying that you can get hacked ROMs or at least games onto GBA cartridges like Shiny Gold?
