1. I would like to point out a couple things for anyone who has experience ANY issues getting PowerSaves working. I am rather disappointed by the limitations of this product (most of which are the result of poor design and coding for the software) but I cannot deny the product is solid and a great buy.

There will be a lot of people who will experience issues with operating the device. Here is how to avoid that!

1.) The device is not USB 3.0 friendly. Due to the incompatibility, the device will experience issues connecting and staying connected according to the software. You are better off using an old computer. I say use at one's own risk because I was foolish enough to be in a rush and the PowerSaves 3DS software caused my Pokemon Y cartridge to become a paper weight.

2.) Windows 7/8 use a feature for handling hardware called "Drive Enforcement" which prevents the software from being able to read the device. If this is not disabled, you cannot guarantee anything is being read or written to the cartridge properly.

3.) Make sure your cartridge connectors are clean. Your hands and fingers should ALWAYS be clean with playing your system especially when handling your cartridges. You should never touch the connector area of the cartridge.

2. Thanks Kaphotics for getting back to me! It is with great lack of luck that Bank was not an option. The cartridge burn out as a result of this glitch making it unreadable by any 3DS (no cartridge would show.) I even tried cleaning the connectors the next day without any change. I started reading into the PowerSaves decryption method by SciresM that you laid out in PKHeX. I am able to kind of follow along (as rusty as I am.)

At this point, make a copy of the backup you just made and rename it save1keystream.bin for easy remembering ability.

You can now use this to open a save in PKHeX! If you want to open a save, XOR save1keystream.bin with the powersaves backup of whatever save you want to check out (I recommend http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/xorfiles.html ), and then delete the first 0x9C bytes in a hex editor (I use HxD). Save the file with the 0x9C header removed, and you can open it in PKHeX totally fine: http://i.snag.gy/x2jJ8.jpg

If I am following this right. The process is to create a key which is necessary to correctly XOR into a decrypted save file. (Since this is unique, this would had only helped if I had the key generated previously.) With this in mind, the same thread seems to suggest it is impossible to take a PKHeX modded save to re-encrypt it to restore via Power Saves, is there?

But furthermore, would had only helped if I had a Gateway... and they finished getting the current-ish firmware support update. :frown:

3. At the start of the servers going down for the first days of ORAS release, I attempted to use PowerSaves 3DS to clone my Pokemon in Box 1 to keep a copy for Bank and to migrate onto ORAS. This error'd out and murdered my cartridge (no longer visible by any Nintendo 3DS.) This forced me to purchase a replacement cartridge.

PowerSaves names all the saves by Game ID. Unfortunately, there appears to have been at least two separate print production runs of Pokemon X & Y for the USA. As a result, PowerSaves recognizes these games as two different titles for the purposes of Backups.

Pokemon Y: EK2Af6f01757 (original)

Pokemon Y: EK2A6e497c5f (replacement)

PowerSaves displays the available back-ups for the game based upon file name with the Game ID at the beginning of the BIN's name. So, I tried renaming the last backup BIN that I know that I had previously loaded prior. Which only loads a corrupt save.

HELP! There has to be a way to convert the BIN into something that the same game can be restored to!

4. On a similar note, I would also like to share an interesting fact about the eShop versions of the games.

It is possible to create an image of an SD card used in a Nintendo 3DS. The image can be written to another SD card to allow a player to use a different SD card with their system. I will note that if you attempt to use this method to rewind time on your eShop versions of XY you will get an error from the games. This confirms that there is data stored on the actual 3DS system about the SD card being used with the system.

Furthermore, I should point out that writing the image to an SD card then plugging the SD card into another 3DS linked to another eShop account will not show any of the applications on the memory card. (I do not currently own a second 3DS.)

This may be well established or documented information for the console hacking community: this testing confirms that every 3DS stores data on the system itself relating to the eShop account and the SD card the system is using. Furthermore, a brand-new key for the data encryption appears to be generated every time an app/game is launched.

5. The issue would be with ALL back-up devices. Previous to Animal Crossing, all NDS/3DS games wrote their data to a small chip (I will keep this to lamens terms) that was mounted to every cartridge with the sole function to store the game's data. Nintendo wanted to ensure they could prevent the backing up of save files could be prevented. They found an alternate way to save the date of games going forward. Animal Crossing would become one of their most heavily ONLINE 24/7 games for the 3DS so they could not afford to risk people hacking their save files. Obviously, the exact same thought to use the same method with Pokemon X & Y was no brainer. None of these games even have that chip on the cartridge.

With that said, all existing back-up devices function by reading that small chip. That is what they are designed to do. As a result, they will not work.

wow, cool I had no idea you could do this... that's awesome, I can't wait for X & Y backup-ability to be announced. This is the first Pokemon game I've gotten over 300 hours of gameplay and still not tired of, I'm awaiting this with extreme patience.

First off, you must have read this correctly. We are NOT talking about a function added by the Pokemon Company or Nintendo. This was previously the result of a company creating a piece of equipment to read the save of all NDS cartridges based upon their original design. Nintendo will NEVER allow for a Back-Up of these games. As a matter of fact, the eShop versions of the games are one of the few games in which the SD card back-up feature does NOT work with.

6. I must admit that my original list of requests was finished.

REQUEST:

I am seeking a marking code to set a Pokemon's cartridge region of origin. (For example, all the Pokemon that I catch state they are from a US cartridge.) I am seeking a marking code to set the region to Japan. (Obviously this code will help make using the Masuda Method way easier.)

7. Scratch this entire thread...

NDS Adapter Plus opened up the cartridges for Pokemon X & Y. The games do not have a EEPROM for writing the memory to. So, no firmware update could ever resolve the unit's ability to store save files. (Same as Animal Crossing: New Leaf.)

Based upon other comments in this thread... all the game's main data is stored on the cartridge but not in a place where current devices available can even access the data.

8. I plan to fool around a little to see what the NDS Adapter can and cannot do with these new games. I will share my results and save files!

I didn't know about the cartridge key encryption. Still, it stands to reason that like all methods of encryption in which the source code is view-able (people will rip the ROMs) that the code can be broken.

9. To those brave souls working hard on PokeGen development!

Hello, I am many of the fellow fans of Pokemon and the PokeGen project that own a NDS Adapter Plus. I will be picking up my games at midnight release for the physical cartridges. I will happily back-up and share some saves!

Here are ones that I already plan on backing-up:

• A Blank Save
• A Blank Save (with Torchic event)
• A Save with Each of the Starters Selected
• A Save with Each of the Starters Selected and the PokeDex obtained

10. You should also keep in mind that the game is unfriendly towards breeding involving Pokemon only with the same game's ID.

You could always get a Nature Modifier code so that once you find one with amazing IVs you can just change the nature to the one you need. Or you can get IV modifiers and modify the IVs but either way you're looking at a lot of hacking or a lot of breeding. =/

Whatever you do, do not take this approach. If you are going to push your luck mark your IV's as opposed to Nature.

RNG abuse on 5th gen

RNG Abuse on B2/W2 is really hard. Additionally, breeding on B2/W2 is impossible. For now, if you are limited to B2/W2, Everstone + 31 IV's on all parents is the best approach for natural game perfection.

11. I noticed something happened to my game and now my Join Avenue never restocks. I haven't messed with the DS clock or played my game in a different DS so I'm not sure why it won't restock. I even tried replacing the shops and they still won't restock. It's been 48 hours now of nonworking shops. Any advice?

Edit: My Join Avenue just restocked. I didn't realize my cart had to be in my DS for 24 hours. It has been and now it fixed. All is well now. :)

This is tied into the Game Sync. Therefore, if a code to fully charge the Game Sync battery was created this would not be an issue. It would also allow for RNG & accessing the Dream World. Win/Win scenario.

This is highly disappointing. Everyone was bragging about this in the other thread and big surprise! There is NOTHING new in there for Pokemon Black 2 or White 2.

REQUEST: Mark a Pokemon with OT Trainer ID: 0 & SID: 0 to assist with Breeding.

12. Sorry if this has been posted before, but are there any EV/IV/Nature editing codes for B2 and W2?

edit: NOT a viewing code, but an editing code is what I mean

There are marking codes for all of those. Its in the Cheats Database (I cannot remember for the life of me what the URL is any more. Its in my Action Replay app but the app doesn't let you see the URL after it is entered the first time.)

13. Need help is there a dream world modifier for Pokemon black 2? I have an espeon and want to give it magic bounce.

You will need to re-chat it or breed it with a female hidden ability Eevee-evolution. (Assuming you want a legit Pokemon.)

pokegen is your best option

Incorrect, PokeCGear is the best application for adding Dream World Pokemon to the Entree Forest.

14. Nurse is a possible female player Trainer Class, in the "Restoring" section of the OP my example has a picture with a nurse player.

Sorry, I should be clear that I meant the Nurse shop class. I have traded with over 20 different GTS players who had Nurse sprites hoping that would work.

This is because fabricating a trainer from the ground up is too much work (for me at least). The memory write AR code type would be the way of doing it.

I am competing in VGC this year and am super cautious about which codes that I will use with my game. Additionally, I am talking about the game's released NPC's for Join Avenue. There data is already all stored in the game. There has to be away of injecting one of those characters without a crazy long code. Anyways, the short of it is that YOU the creator of the code says its too complicated to do.

15. Why don't you just fill up every shop with a keeper, and then change their roles with an AR code? Much simpler that way.
I already have 6 of the 8 shops exactly the way that I need them. Additionally, from what I can tell, the only way to get a Nurse is from the in-game characters. The amount of GTS trades and visitors from the Dream World that I have racked up has convinced me of that. I understand that your suggestion maybe easier but if definitely appears to be far from legit.

Use the method I posted to get a new pointer value for the code, then set the shop setting with the other part of the line.
I already stated that this guide makes little sense to me.

It's just simple math which can be done with a calculator or websites like Wolfram Alpha.

0x920 + 0x246AC + 0xB4 = XXXXX

(helper 1), and choose the shop type.

94000130 FFFB0000
B2000024 00000000
10025080 000000B4
10025144 00000104
10025208 00000032
100252CC 000000D2
10025390 00000082
10025454 00000122
10025518 000000DC
100255DC 0000012C
D2000000 00000000

Changes all the shop types, keeps the good inventories but their level isn't set. You don't have to do any referring, just use the services

We don't know how visitor shop open preference is determined, so this is the best you will get.

Is the code that I inquired about or the one you suggested?

16. Would someone be able to provide an example of the code needed to set the first Visitor to one of the game's default visitors. Specifically, one of the nurses, such as:

* Name: Jess

* Sprite: Nurse

* Shop Type: Nursery

(or at least according to Serebii.net)

For those of us who do not speak Action Replay coder. Pretty please!

(I just need the Nurses to finish my shop order. None have appeared as a result of GTS dream world visitors or trader partners:

#1 - B2 Beauty

#2 - W2 Beauty

#3 - B1 Dojo

#4 - B2 Dojo

#5 - W1 Dojo

#6 - W2 Dojo

#7 - B2 Nurse

#8 - W2 Nurse)
