  1. Here you go. Player is a Charmander, partner is a female Treecko (not that gender matters much in this game, but because the European translations assume the partner to be female, I always make this selection). Neither are nicknamed, but you can change both from the main menu after you progress through the story some. The save should start right before the scene with Deoxys and Rayquaza.

Here ya go! Thinking on it, it might be because I had to patch the save type so it saved properly when used on the 3DS Virtual Console...

It looks like that save is half the size it needs to be, so the patch might not have worked right. Your general info and item data looks OK, but all the Pokemon data is corrupt, which is likely partly why it crashes when you try saving.

It's been ages since I patched RRT to work on my 3DS, so I don't really remember how I did it, but this guide may help if you try again.

Hello! Is this still being worked on?

Yes, but much slower than in the past. My current focus is rewriting the code that extracts and repacks 3DS ROMs to greatly improve speed and to remove another barrier in the way of supporting non-Windows systems.

his whole thing would gain much more traction if it was moved to a discord server.

There's no dedicated guild, but for now, I think the Project Pokémon Discord guild will suffice (link's on our chat page). There's no channels dedicated specifically to Sky Editor, but if Sky Editor becomes a more popular topic, that may change in the future.

Hi! I'm having an issue with this program. When I import a PMD: Red Rescue Team save, and try to export it (even if I didn't make any changes, also happens if I did), the editor immediately closes, and doesn't save the file. Is there a fix for this?

Could you upload your save file, please? You can send me a private message if you don't want it to be public.

  5. When Gen 7 was announced, I was pretty "meh", at least until the demo came out. I'm actually pretty interested in this one, however. Not sure exactly why though.

That map looks oddly linear. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing yet.

Will this program ever allow the editing of wonder mail missions? I have a save file with the Wi-Fi missions downloaded.

    • I can't send them to my Japanese save file through wireless.
    • They don't have a password to enter.
    • Writing the save to the Japanese cart will just delete the save file on the cart.

I'm sure something could be done with hex editing or something else to convert the save to Japanese but that's not a skill I have.

It won't be possible for the foreseeable future, but if you could share your save, I might be able to take a look eventually (but not soon).

Don't respond to criticism by deleting it mods, it's very unprofessional of you, and very disrespectful. So I would thank you not to do it again, and actually address this criticism instead of trying to get rid of any existence or trace of it. Running away from the problem that you started isn't an effective way of solving it.

You're right that it's unprofessional to delete criticism, but the posts that were deleted weren't exactly professional themselves, so I'm not going to unhide them. However, I've created a thread that I believe addresses most of the legitimate concerns that were brought up:

If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns, please create a thread in the Feedback forum. Because this thread is about Nightmare Moon and Reaper Sun, we will remove any new posts that are off-topic.

  8. Since our site was founded, we at Project Pokemon have asked that people distribute ROM hacks using patches (such as IPS or XDelta), and not by directly distributing modified ROMs, not even individual files within them. This is because copyright law prohibits the distribution of copyrighted works, bringing stiff penalties for anyone who does so anyway. Using patches, it is possible to only distribute the modifications and not the copyrighted bits.

This worked nicely for GBA and NDS games, because all GBA and NDS roms are essentially identical to each other (mostly), regardless of how they are dumped. Things got more complicated with 3DS games, however. There are a variety of different formats for 3DS ROMs that don't always store the exact same information, so traditional patching methods won't work. Some people made patches for just the romfs and exefs portions of ROMs, which for the most part works, but is rather inconvenient for the end user. That's when I created the DS ROM Patcher, an easy-to-use tool designed to make this whole process simpler. Using this tool, an easy-to-use zip file contains all the tools and patches needed to use a ROM hack. It accepts decrypted ROMs in a variety of formats, and can output ROMs in a variety of formats.

As the 3DS hacking scene progressed, eventually LayeredFS was invented, and it became possible to just distribute all the modified files in an easy to use zip file without the need for additional tools. While this is undoubtedly the most convenient way to use ROM hacks, it's not exactly the most legal. Copyright law not only prohibits distributing copyrighted works, but it also forbids distributing portions of these works too. For some 3DS games it may not be an issue, as a single small file can be replaced rather easily, but most ROM hacks distributed on this site are for the mainline Pokemon games developed by Game Freak. Instead of containing individual files, these games contain obfuscated archives each containing hundreds of smaller files. When using LayeredFS, changing even one of the files within requires distributing the entire archive. Changing several files from across different archives results in needing to distribute a significant portion of the original ROM, and with each file it steps closer and closer to distributing the whole ROM.

Because distributing entire ROMs has always been against the rules at our site, we decided to not allow hacks to be distributed in this way any longer. We have deleted links to ROM hacks that were already distributed this way, but because of the widespread use, no one will get any closer to a ban unless they do so after having been directly told. We are not banning 3DS ROM hacks, as there are still legal ways to distribute them, like the DS ROM Patcher. No one is required to use this tool (if you have an alternative, I encourage you to bring it up), but no one is allowed to distribute whole modified files as is commonly done with LayeredFS.

If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns, please create a thread in the Feedback forum or send me a private message. If anyone has any concerns about my tool, the DS ROM Patcher, please let me know here.

  9. After a few hours of being offline, we're finally back! Not only are we on a shiny new server, we have some new goodies:

    The Dark Theme

As most programmers can tell you, light themes are, well, too light. This new dark theme, which you're probably already using now that it's the default, was carefully chosen to be easier on your eyes and blend with our existing aesthetic.

If you don't like it and want to go back to the old one, then don't panic! Simply scroll to the bottom of the page, and there's a theme selector at the bottom left of the page. Choose "Site Theme" if you want our previous default, or choose "IPS Default" for maximum brightness.

    No More Ads

For years, this site has been funded with the bane of the internet: advertisements. However, thanks to the generous donations of our Patrons on Patreon, we no longer need to rely on advertisements, so we have disabled them for everyone.

As always, we'll continue to work to make the site even better than it is. We'd love your help by giving us your thoughts and feedback. We also have some open moderator positions for anyone who is interested.

I am not sure if I am using the latest version of your editor, however I am experiencing a weird issue with version 4.1.0.35. Basically adding in items and what not for whatever reason wipes the Pokemon I befriended in dungeons. Some cases I ended up with glitched Pokemon that don't say anything in Spinda's Cafe, mind you the save I am editing is actually the normal save the game generates on the real cartridge (own a copy of the game and dumped the save).

Could you send me a copy of the save before and after editing, please?

will a r4i save dongle work for this?

I don't personally have one, but given that it works with my NDS Backup Adapter Plus and SMS4, I don't see why not.

I was nostalgically messing with Action Replay and gave my partner in Sky an IQ skill that can't be turned on, and there's no AR code to reset IQ.

But unfortunately, Sky Editor doesn't support turning IQ skills on or off, unfortunately.

Sky JEditor will let you change the necessary bits IIRC, but it would be mostly trial-and-error work, since it would be changing one of the unknown 0's to a 1.

Edit: Sorry forgot the other one, although I've barely played it. I just used it really to double check and see if it was an issue with what I was doing or not.

Ah, those saves are from No$GBA. It should be a simple fix to get them working in Sky Editor. From nogba.com:

    Quote
    1. Using the Wordpad or Notepad program, open No$GBA.ini which you can find inside your No$GBA folder.
    2. Find the line that states “SAV/SNA File Format”. Once you find this, change the term Compressed/Uncompressed to Raw. Afterwards, save the changes that you have input.
    3. Play the game and save your file. You can do this if you open another game or you reload your recent game.

Afterward, you should be able to open those saves in Sky Editor.

Not sure if this has been an issue for anyone yet, and if it's a simple one my apologies. When I try to open my save file in the editor this message comes up.

"There's no available UI for this object of type "SkyEditor.Core.IO.GenericFile."

This comes up when I try to load up both my Blue Rescue team save and my European Explorers of Sky save.

That means it couldn't tell what kind of file you gave it, probably because the checksums are bad.

What happens if when you open the saves, you use File -> Open -> Open (Let me choose the file type), then choose the correct save format?

Aw that's damn shame...don't wanna try CFW because I've read horror stories of Nintendo banning 3DS consoles......regardless if you play online or not because they'll somehow know once you have CFW on it....

It might be different now on the latest firmware, but generally speaking, as long as you don't pirate software,  you'll be fine. It's not the same on the Switch, and I think they ported over some of the Switch's hack checks to the 3DS on the latest firmware.

On 10/25/2018 at 11:27 PM, Iispoor said:

Yeah I use that, but the problem with that is that it doesn't support DS titles, so that means i cant import or export save files from say Pokemon Black or Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time which I genuinely own on cartridge format....but wanna see what muck around things I can do with my saves......could max out the IV and EV stats of my party pokemons whilst still be within the legal limits, to make battling other trainers easier....

Try TWL Save Tool. It works with homebrew, but it will require that you have either PokéTransporter or Pokémon Dream Radar installed. (Disclaimer: I haven't tried it in quite a while, so I can't personally attest that it works on newer firmwares.)

..speaking of which, how goes that Sky Editor with my Gates to Infinity save file that's been exported from a cartridge; got anything working like editing party pokemon stats or items or .....money...? Or really any progress if at all?

Unfortunately, no. Unlike other save file structures, where data is located in the same place all the time, the 3DS Mystery Dungeon save files store data in different locations (e.g. saves with 40 items in the bag will be bigger than saves with no items in the bag). This makes it very difficult to reverse engineer the save file structure, as it'll require an almost complete knowledge of the structure. I lack the patience to do that or to reverse engineer the game to learn how it works, so I've instead been focusing on ROM editing, where I can reverse engineer file formats. It'll be a long time before I take another close look at the 3DS Mystery Dungeon save files again, unfortunately.

  14. I took a look at the saves, and a lot more research will be needed to support editing. Sky Editor doesn't really understand the layout of the save yet, and it uses clues from other pieces of data to guess where the checksum is, clues which aren't in your save for some reason. I'm sorry to say that Sky Editor won't be able to edit GTI saves for quite a while.

You may be able to look around for cheat codes to accomplish what you want, but unfortunately, I don't have any handy.
