Gen 8 expectations

Hi,

I opened a new thread in order to discuss about your expectations about gen 8. What kind of things do you want to see or to return?

Here's my top:

New features:
1)Exclusive new double types (Ground/Fairy, Electick/Dark, Fight/Electrik, Rock/Ghost, Normal/Ghost, Poison/Steel ...)
2)A real exploration
3)End of shinylock
4)A Jurassic Park (where you can catch Fossil Pokemon, even with their HA)
5)More character customisation (clothes from past heroes or evil teams ...)
6)Gift Pokemon option in Mystery gift menu to send a Pokemon to a friend for its bithday or a special event
7)A focus on underleved hunting (with for example the White Flute)
8)New Pokeballs

Returning Feature
1)Return of Flutes, all the Berries (even event and E-reader ones) and Safari/Sport/Parc/Dream Balls
2)DexNav from ORAS or something like that
3)PSS from XYORAS or something like that
4)Battle frontier from Emerald or something like that
5)Pokemon following you

Other
Gen 4 Compatibility with Pokemon Bank in 3ds
End of restritions for Mew in gen1, HoA Arceus, DP Shaymin/Darkrai, HeadSmash Nosepass, Charm Bulbasaur, Charm Snorlax, Aurora Beam/Barrier/Supersonic Staryu, Odd Eggs in Poketransporter

New features:

  1. An open world section of the game, where you can explore randomly generated areas with other players and have the chance to catch rare Pokemon, or maybe Pokemon with unique moves, such as a Pikachu with Surf or Fly for example. Maybe in this you can team up with other players to capture a legendary. I'm thinking take the social aspects from Pokemon Go and make that work with a traditional Pokemon game. This doesn't even have to be in the main story section of the game, however could be an unlocked safari multiplayer type feature post game.
  2. Improving the communication within the game would be nice, this seems to have regressed in Gen 7 to the point where you can't even type your own message when putting a Pokemon on the GTS. We should be able to voice chat in game at this point, that would be essential for the above open world idea.
  3. Retaining more of the information for Pokemon imported from previous generations, for example the date / route it was caught, not just replacing it with something generic based on the game it came from.

Some returning features i'd like:

  1. National Pokedex - as someone who enjoys the collecting aspect of the game the most I really don't like how it's absent from all Gen 7 games.
  2. PSS - I did enjoy having this up as i'm randomly playing the game, it gave the feeling that your playing with other people as you progress though the story.
  3. DexNav - I liked this, from a collecting point of view this was extremely useful.

Wishes:

  1. Don't milk the franchise, by that I mean don't release Gen 8, then release the same game again a year later, slightly changed... (looking at you Ultra Sun and Moon). The Switch is a modern console, an expansion pack released at a later date with new regions to explore might actually work well for a Pokemon game if done right.
  2. Don't go overboard with all the cut scenes, I felt this was too much in the Gen 7 games.

This is what they begin to do with Friend Safari in XY but I can't tell if it was a success or not. I mean I found it cool but frustrating in the same time. And Pokemon Ranger 3 coop mission disguted me to buy it, especially because only one player can receive the Deoxys.

That is a storage and conversion problem unfortunately.

Yeah agree but in the same time the story was the best part of Sun/Moon. Just an option to skip them for example?

My expectations that probably won't really happen.

1. A more openworld-esque feeling for the overworld, with no transitions (besides battles and maybe entering doors)

2. Optional camera control

3. The return of a completely overhauled Kanto (more diversity in terms of locations, like actual Volcano on Cinnabar, maybe foggy/chilly new outdoor levels for Seafoam islands)

4. The reveal that Giovanni in USUM came from this game.

5. Travel to Johto (and hopefully Sevii Islands)! (Rocket arc doesn't end in pre-E4, basically)

6. The return of trainer customization.

I wasn't really thinking like the friend safari, although now you mention it I did really enjoy the friend safari feature. I added loads of random people from Reddit to get various Pokemon I wanted in there. Even leaving my 3DS online for hours in game just so someone in a different time zone could get my 3rd Pokemon. That was a great help when creating my living Pokedex.

For this I was thinking more like Pokemon Go, a massive open world which could be randomly generated or based on real world locations with map data, I guess kinda like an MMORPG. So everything is randomly generated, you might get common Pokemon, however you might also get some rare Pokemon which would be difficult to obtain otherwise, however it would never be the same for more than a couple of hours. I wouldn't want the whole game to be like this, however I just think it would be a nice additional "multiplayer" feature taking what makes Pokemon Go unique and applying it to the traditional games.

It doesn't have to be though is what i'm saying. In Gen 6 and 7 the data is there, however moving from Gen 6 to Gen 7 for example no longer shows the date this Pokemon was captured, just what region it came from. I dont see why it can't retain the route and date for something caught in Gen 7, when eventually transferring it to Gen 8 for example.

?God no please no Kanto remake ?

That could make an awesome post-game for the new game.

And for the main scenario: a land where Pokemon are very rare because of humans and where you have to hunt them (like Glittering Cave in XY) or bait them (like XD).

I agee with the no-transition, for the camera it can be complicated but they succeeded in the past with Pokemon Snap so who knows?

I would agree if it was plain, but if they manage to make it as diverse as Alola, and less linear, it could be enjoyable, especially if they change up the story.

precisely, imagine he succeeds, he escapes (into USUM), and we defeat him atop Mt Silver after he returns.

Furthermore, his escape to USUM via an Ultra Wormhole, is the perfect excuse to introduce out of region Pokemon to the post-game.

When I say camera, I meant control of where you look, like a FPS game.
Monster Hunter can use the other joystick to change camera angle, and since joycons have joysticks on each side, it'll be better to have some use of the joystick.

  • National Dex. Collectors and completionists don't want to settle on it being PokeBank exclusive behind a paywall.
  • Return to featuring more exploration options and less linearity. It makes it more fun and worth playing after you finish the main game. (eg. giving Ultra Space full potential)
  • Less hand-holding. I'm tired of the slow and boring beginnings with forced Trainer School bullshit, etc.
  • Stop hyping things just to end up with lost potential (eg. Ultra Megalopolis, Zygarde, etc.)
  • Longer post-game stories. Rainbow Rocket was fun, but too short.
  • Perhaps continue Rainbow Rocket (post-game or not), as Giovanni hinted this was only the beginning of his new scheme.
  • Lessen the ongoing Kanto pandering, rather just have references to all regions. (Alolan forms of only Kantomon is one example of this problem)
  • More in-game Mythicals like Deoxys and Celebi.
  • No Kanto remakes until we at least have Gen IV and V
  • If Kanto, make it a new story that takes place after GSC, or alternatively  a prequel to GSC that allows travel to Johto.

While I do want a National Dex in the game itself, Pokebank is $5 for a year. That's less than 50 cents per month, and 50 cents can hardly buy a gumball nowadays.

When done properly, it's not too bad. Recent games do take it to absurd levels though.

This. In S/M it felt like a large percentage of it was just trying to appeal to Gen 1 fans.

Yeah, new Pokemon forms from other generations would be so great now they have pass through mega evolution problem. I think Alolan forms was a kind of test. They could have think people were disappointed of the lack of new mega evolutions so our new forms could not been received well.

Wanted:

-Electrick/Poison Stunky/Skuntank

-Bug/Ice Larvesta/Volcarona

-Normal/Steel Tauros

-Fairy/Dark Snubull/Granbull

-Poison/Ice Ekans/Arbok

-Normal/Ice Stantler

Fire/Fairy Rapidash

I say also yes to in-game Mythicals if : not shinylocked (I think of you Victini), real in-game story about, not unreleased because of WTF opinions (I think of you Arceus).

I don't mind paying the $5 a year, rather I'm thinking of longevity. I sometimes still complete/re-complete the NatDex when playing any of the older games. Come the day in 10 years or whenever and the 3DS/Switch PokeBank servers goes offline, we won't even have access anymore. I also don't like DLC for this reason, so when I buy a game I prefer it complete.

  • 3 weeks later...
  • 5 weeks later...

Some really interesting points I must say I will add mine now.

1) a post game where you can buy and use your own gym, sort of like a secret base, but bigger, better with tonnes of online features

2) with shinys being more of a thing for people now with the increased odds, I would like an evil team that specialises in stealing/using shiny pokemon

3) new trainer classes eg. Shiny hunter, skater, ex gym leader, EV trainer, nature specialist etc

4) the return of ball seals would be awesome and or more ball types

5) trainer with full teams or trainers that can be rebattled and the amount of Pokemon and skill is increased

They've announced that Let's Go will only have Kanto Pokemon + the Alolan Variants.

Additionally, no transfer mechanic for existing main series games announced.
(only transfer announced was for Pokemon Go)

ALSO,
All evidence presently points towards Let's Go being a Gen 7 game, not Gen 8.

Since the Kalos times, what matter the most to me are the aesthetics, I've always been into customization and whatnot, so I want more of it. You know, more hairstyle and hair color options (come on, GF, I want anime-esque stuff, if NPCs can have purple hair, why am I bound to use only generic, realistic colors?), clothing variety (geez, they're headquartered in Setagaya, if they're out of clothing ideas, Shibuya is north east from there, it can't be that hard to visit Harajuku for some inspiration (?)), Ball seals (I really liked using the alphabet seals back in G4 :FeelLikeAFiveYearsOld:) and, please, let MC have facial expressions other than o ͜   o

Now, gameplay-wise:

  • It'd be nice to have some PWT-like facility. I really liked it.
  • Let us have all the damn berries. If the AI can use custap berries, a non-hacker player should be able to use'em, too.
  • A stable chaining system. DexNav was a pain to use in areas with a low amount of grass tiles, and SOS battles take forever when it comes to Pokémon you'd actually want to chain.
  • Bring National Dex back. I was hyped when I saw all previous gen Mons got new entries, and then got disappointed when I found out there was no national Dex. My fav Mon is Pidgeot and I'm mad cuz no new Dex entry.
  • A better online system. Festival Plaza was awful and GF should be fully aware about the players' opinion by now.
  • The option to selectively enable or disable animations. I wanna see the move animations, but I definitely don't wanna see item activation, status/weather damage, nor any other end-of-turn animations. They're especially obnoxious in double/triple battles.
  • A PokéBall-specialized shop that actually sells all kinds of PokéBalls. I'm willing to pay Poké¥100000 for, say, a single Dream Ball. I just want the possibility to have it.
  • As many of you, I want more mega-evolutions. Or, at the very least, more regional variants. Ever since G6, I've been hoping to see a pegasus Rapidash.
  • As someone suggested above, a Jurassic Park would be nice. I honestly expexted USUM to have it, since it seemed to fill whatever was incumplete in SM, but alas..
  • Something I liked from USUM was the many side quests it had. Side quests make in-game worlds feel more natural, and USUM did a neat job at subtly giving us a more mature, somewhat realistic view of something aimed at children. I'd like future games to follow that road.
  • If some half-naked masked man wants to have a foursome with me and two children, I'd like to be able to refuse (?)
  • And, I know this is never gonna happen, but I'd like some sort of bond building with certain relevant NPCs. Not like some dating sim, of course, but it'd e nice to have'em say different lines and give you certain items according to how close you're to them.
Yeah, this is merely a whim. I just want an excuse to shipp characters and more yuribait.

Guess that's it.

My expectations : When Diamond & Pearl remake , Arceus can fuse 17 plates, and transform into Original form.

The ability may also change into " type change"  and allowed players select 18 Types on screen before using move.

Just my idea baesed on the M12 "Arceus and the Jewel of Life" , I expect more on how GF show the ability of Time & Space and Anti-Matter on Dialga , Palkia and Giratina in the future .
