It can show it, and you can copy and paste it, but you can't type it. Hiragana, katakana, and most Kyoiku/Joyo kanji can be displayed on the text screen, but some will show up as blocked question marks. I wish the Wii was updated to include the kana and kanji for typing, and more kanji for displaying, along with more accented letters like a vowel with a - over it to show a longer sound (eg. o + - = oo).
