Changing HGSS Shiny Rate

Recommended Posts

So I'm trying to increase the rate in a HGSS rom (or rather Drayano's Storm Silver). I know there's an AR code for 100% shiny encounters, but that's not what I'm looking for. I've seen a similar topic on here but I don't know anything about editing roms so I didn't understand it. I'm not interested in learning to edit roms on a large scale; I just want to change the shiny rate. Can anyone explain this process step by step? I get lost when it comes to getting the arm9 file back into the rom.

Here's the link to the original thread:

If you don't want to use a action replay code, or edit the roms, tough luck, there's almost no other way.

It's not like a magic button that just changes.
It just sounds like yo want someone to do the work for you.

The link you showed goes to nowhere.

However, there is one "glitch" you can use to do so,
watch this:

The Smogon link in the video will guide you. It's pretty simple.
I got this to work for myself. :)

I think you've misunderstood me here and there's no need for the weird/rude strikeout text. I don't mind doing the editing but I'm not into editing roms/programming as a whole. I was just laying out what I don't need because on most of the threads, these are the suggestions people give. I'm already aware of this glitch and it's not what I'm looking for either but I appreciate the suggestion. I've already watched/read several tutorials but there really isn't a lot on changing the shiny rate in gen 4 games because people aren't really interested in it.

I didn't ask for you or anyone else to do it. I asked for a more in-depth explanation of the thread I linked (for some reason all project pokemon links are leading straight to the homepage today, but maybe it's just me). Obviously I've already tried editing it as I mentioned it in my post. I get stuck when it comes time to put the arm9 file back with the rest of the files in the rom. It's either too big when I leave it uncompressed after editing or too small when i decompress it. It may have something to do with the fact that I'm trying to play it on an r4 instead of an emulator on my computer.

Can anyone answer my question? I'm looking to change the shiny rate so it affects everything: random encounters, starters, gifts. I asked for a more in-depth explanation because I was convinced that I was doing something wrong, but now I suspect that the problem is trying to play on the r4.

Can I edit the the arm9 file, simply place it back with the rest of the files without compressing it, and play it on an emulator?

If there isn't a specific tutorial already posted, then you have to figure out how to do it yourself with the resources that are available.

If compression isn't yielding a similar file size, you should probably investigate why. Also look to see how other arm9 / overlay edits can be made compatible with flashcards.
