Head on over the the gamecube pokemon hacking discord https://discord.gg/aucXehNbwM to shout at me about anything I might have missed.

Must give a massive shoutout to Stars who has helped me throughout this process, and who without his tools I'd have not even managed to turn a Zigzagoon into a Linoone. Would also like to thank FanficPheonix, mikeyX, Brawlersinthezone and Lan for their contributions as well, couldn't have done it without you guys!

There are plenty of other features I'd love to bring to this project in the future, so anyone knowledgeable in the ways of coding who wants to work on a project like this please get in touch!

How to patch

Download either the Johto, Kanto, or Hoenn version of Grand depending on which set of starters and legendaries you want to catch and play with

Apply the patch file to a clean Pokemon ColosseumISO using any UPS patcher. This patch was made for the NTSC (US) version so it will not work on other versions. The iso is quite large so it may take a few minutes.

Always patch onto a clean ISO, even if you are applying an update.

When patching make sure file isn't a nkit file. If it is, please note that the patch will not work and you will need to convert the file into an ordinary ISO, or source another ISO.

Recommend using a fresh save for all the features to work properly

Make sure to use the nuzlocke patch after you've patched it using the main patch

Will this ever fix the completely painful issues with Colosseum that makes it as bad as it is? That being Gen 3 Double Battle mechanics that makes a clean switch impossible?

Oh, or hyper mode? Is there any way to make it act like XD's reverse mode, where it actually becomes a tolerable mechanic?

When you say not being able to get a clean switch, do you mean having to switch in a new mon on the same turn as your poke being KO'd? As it's something outside of my capabilities as a coder I'm afraid, so would need help in making that work. Guessing your issue with hyper mode is it taking a turn away from you when it happens? As again that would require coding that I am just not capable of sorry!

Let me just say I am so excited to play this. I haven't played it yet, I'm waiting a for a later update, been checking this page every once in a while to see the updates. I downloaded it today not to play, but to see the documentation. And I want to ask, why were the weather TMs replaced? Is there some other way to teach Pokemon weather moves, like a tutor? Because in vanilla I always enjoyed running Sunnybeam Meganium and I don't want to be forced to use Ninetales or Torkoal in order to access sun if I want to do that. (And in this, Ninetales and Meganium are both Fairy type so if if I want to do that without type overlap, I have to use Torkoal.) Just an example, I think the weather TMs (except Hail because who uses Hail) should've been kept in. And speaking of which, Vulpix/Ninetales should still have access to Flash Fire. Sure, most people run Drought on them, but if you want to use them but not have a sun team, there's no way around it. Torkoal can still have Shell Armor, so could Ninetales also have Flash Fire?

1.3 should hopefully be out soon :) The weather TMs were replaced because the ease at which enemy weather teams could be countered was too much imo. I have given plenty of shadows access to these moves via level up however, with Meganium being one of these. Hope you enjoy it when you do get round to playing, and thanks for the feedback!

Hi there, quick question. Is there a full list of shadow pokemon and type changes that can be provided?

This is starting to become the definitive Colosseum rom hack. So would you be willing to also incorporate changes from the "Pokemon Colosseum Restoration" pack as well? https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6141/

For some context, it adds in the changes to the US version that got changed from the Japanese release (title screen, outfits, etc)

Is there any way to reset evs implemented? I want to actually use Umbreon as a main team member, but since you have to go through 10+ hours of grueling battles with underleveled pokemon, ive ended up with a nearly level 50 Umbreon and really would like to reset his evs.

It has been great being able to play through Colosseum with many of the QOL changes that have come from later gens. I was even enjoying the increased difficulty level right up to Realgem Tower.

I'm not the best player by any stretch, but the permanent weather teams used by the admins are simply atrocious. You said above that there are "plenty" of shadow mons who learn the weather moves, but from looking at your docs there are only 3 that learn Rain Dance and two of them learn it at least 6 levels past the suggested level cap. No move tutor or tm either so if you remove the weather move you are screwed.

I'm sure many will enjoy the increased challenge, and pouring over docs of endgame content to know what moves you can and can't replace on your mons for the whole game but that's not me. Thank you for the effort that clearly went into a great mod for those who like a challenge.

Hey, first off I'd like to thank you for making this mod, it's really great! :) I love the difficulty, never felt unfair but always had to think and strategize which many modern pkmn games lack.

Just a little note: the discord-link doesn't seem to work for me :/ Also, is it possible to get Celebi in Grand and if so, how and when? Always bugged me that you couldn't in original Colosseum :'D

Anyway, thank you so, so much!!! I can really see the amount of work that went into this game and I LOVE IT!!

Hi,

I am so sorry and probably dumb, but I have trouble finding the GrandV1.2 file according to the patch instruction. I do have a clean ISO colosseum rom, the file from here but i can't seem to find this particular file. I only get UPS files as GrandHoenn2.0, GrandColosseum2.0 and GrandKantho2.0. Thank you x)

Hi! Just to say I'm really enjoying this version. I'm playing 2.0 but I noticed that the move Snore does almost no damage. In game text says it's base power is 100.

Thank you so much for letting me know! Sadly some of the moves seem to be hard coded to have a specific power level (had the same issue with Triple kick, hence the 120BP change), so imagine this may be the same here. Hope you enjoy the rest of the game :)

I am super new to patching files and whatnot so i have a possibly dumb question. I know i need to use NUPS to patch a standard iso file of Colosseum but in your read me of how to patch it says to use GrandV1.2, which i cannot find in the folders. Its instead has GrandKanto, Grand Colosseum, and GrandHoenn.

SO my question is do i need to do all of those patches or only one? If one, then which one is recommended? Thank you in advance for the help.

The "How_to_patch.txt" file needs to be updated. There's no "GrandV1.2" patch file, instead there are three folders in the "Patcher and Mod files" folder named "Kanto version", "Johto version", and "Hoenn version" containing the files "GrandKanto2.0.UPS", "GrandColosseum2.0.UPS", and "GrandHoenn2.0.UPS" respectively.

Not sure how to proceed, I assumed they all needed to be patched to the .iso file. I started with GrandKanto2.0.UPS which patched successfully. I attempted the remaining two, but was met with the error "The patch doesn't match the file. Patching canceled."

I booted up the game to see if just using the Kanto patch worked; going off the first encounter with Willie, he had two Linoones, Lvl 25 and Lvl 24. This leads me to believe the patch was a success, but why then would I only need the Kanto patch and not the others?

What's up with that?

I'm hearing a lot of people say there's unpredictable typing changes in this game...Does that mean that pokemon typings defy what they should be in later gens...? Also the patch has three different versions but i can't find any information on them. What's the difference between Hoenn, Johto and Kanto...? Do one of them have appropriate typing? I don't really wanna just straight up lose a fight cause my opponent has a type i could have never seen coming...

Edit: I figured out the difference of the patches, it's the starters and legendaries you can catch.

I also noticed that...my opp KO'd his own sharpedo with surf.

Is that a bug? Going off the fact muddy water which is basically surf but a bit better (which only hits enemy) I think it feels like surf hitting for 3 isn't normal x.x but then again I haven't played pokemon in years so...

Hello, I just wanted to say that I did overall enjoy playing through this romhack, but I'd run into a small problem; when trying to register my Pokemon in Battle Mode (for obtaining Ho-oH), the game just freezes.

I'm uncertain as to whether that's a known feature or if it's something gone wrong on my end.

You know, I will say that this ROM HACK has absolutely changed the way you play this game, and ultimately rekindled my desire to play this game with modern mechanics and the like. The work really shows, and I think I speak for a lot of people when we say "good job," Kya. Not many people have the time or the energy to want to try and pull something like this off, so I'm always appreciative towards those that take the time out of their day to learn how to do just that. :)

As a personal request, if this game gets updated in the future, would there be a possibility to be able to have an additional version without Rui's changed voicelines? I'm a big fan of her original character, personally, and it's just weird to me to have that changed. (no sweat if not, of course, your mod your rules, but I thought asking couldn't hurt)

Thanks for this mod all the same! :D

It's been fun playing the game again with his hack. Definitely ramps up the difficulty. Often have to heal after every battle as I can't trust any member of my team not to die. I've used Confuse Ray and Helping Hand more than I ever have before. Umbreon the ultimate support pokemon. I whited out 9 times on Dakim. Ended up using it as a level grind before I could beat him. Umbreon was lvl 37 first try and then lvl 43 on victory. After MT Battle things have been a bit easier once getting my team together though. It's weird Arbok cant get hit by psychic moves and Sceptile does not get super effective from Fire moves but otherwise very much enjoying the playthrough.
