When I export it, then open it in pokegen, I have nothing in my boxes or my party (I have a piplup in my party in the actual game)

I'm very confused lol, sorry I'm kind of new to this kind of stuff. So when I click Import backup memory there is nothing there, so do I export a backup memory?

So I'm trying to gen some pokemon into my Pokemon Platinum file (desmume not a legit cartridge) and after I hit save, pokegen just closes without doing anything, then I go into my game, and no changes have been made. PLEASE HELP D:
