"Unsupported Save File Type" in TWLSaveTool (Pearl)

Hey guys,
So I've been trying to use TWLSaveTool via Homebrew to back up my Pearl save, but it keeps giving me the message below:

It backs up my Diamond cartridge perfectly, though. I've played the two games on a 3DS and a DSi and been able to save and trade mons between the two games, so I think the Pearl cartridge should be real (cartridge doesn't look fake on the outside, but I don't know what functions a counterfeit can and can't do).

Is there anyway I can get my Pearl cartridge backed up? (Feel free to ask for more details if needed)

Sounds like it's having contact problems, considered cleaning the contacts of the carts, and do a few more tries.

I cleaned it up and it didn't work - tried loading it in PKSM but it says "incorrect size for this game"...weird.

ignore PKSM for now, let's do it step by step.

It sounds like you were finally able to dump it, with no error messages?
If so, try opening it with PKHeX first.

Nope, I still couldn't dump it. I thought it was just the save tool being weird so I wanted to try it with PKSM (which I guess also didn't work).

okay, just for kicks, play your Pokemon pearl, save the game twice, then come back out.

How easy was it to access your game, did you have to restart your DS a few times to connect properly?

If you mean connecting to the internet for trade when you said "connect", I had no trouble at all. I basically head right into the Union Room and trade with my Diamond (smooth connection on both the 3DS and the DSi). If you mean playing the game in general, I didn't need to restart for that either.

I saved twice (without restarting) with my 3DS and loaded the TWLSaveTool again but still no good :o

I meant being able to play it.
It seems like you're able to play it easily, but have issues backing it up.

You mentioned you're using homebrew,
do you have Pokemon Transporter or Pokemon Dream Radar?

Yep, I have both.

how odd indeed.

I can't imagine your cart being fake, being the problem.

Do you have any flashcarts for NDS, and a NDS phat/NDS lite (I think DSi ends game when cart is popped out)

I wish; can I hear what you're planning to do anyways?

Unless someone can chime in regarding this,

What I have in mind, is that there are other tools that can backup NDS cart.

If you have a NDS cart and a NDS Phat/NDS Lite,
there are other save managers that can extract NDS save files too.

Right now, I've got no clue to why your pearl can't be read. If cleaning contacts, slotting it in and out doesn't work,
then the only other options is to trade all the Pokemon to your Diamond,
then back up your Diamond save (I read that your Diamond could be backed up)

I was thinking of doing that. Maybe I should do that.
This is a really weird case, but hey, thanks a lot anyways!

No worries, we're all here to help :)

In any case, maybe OP can consider mailing the cart, or meet up with someone who can extract it?

Of course, since children also visit this site, before I seem to be advising people to do weird suspicious meet ups,
I'm going to preface this/put the disclaimer under "only when its safe", "have parents around", "maybe you know a friend that can do it" etc etc.

I'll say mailing probably is the safer option, if you can find a trusted member that stays near enough (to reduce chances of it getting lost in mail?)
