Coming Soon: Clubs

[Edit] If anyone is reading this after the fact, clubs can be found here.

A new forum update is coming soon, and one of the features I'm hyped for are Clubs. Clubs are sub-communities where you can discuss various topics that you define.

Users

From the IPS Community website:

Each club has three levels of user:

  • Leader
A leader has all of the permissions of a moderator, and can add other moderators. They can also add content areas (see below). The club owner is automatically a leader.
  • Moderators
Moderators, as the name implies, have the ability to moderate content posted within the club. As the site administrator, you can define which moderator tools can be used. You could, for example, prevent any content being deleted from clubs, but allow it to be hidden. Moderators can also remove members from a club.
  • Users
Anyone else that joins the club.

Access Levels

Quote

Four types of club are available:

  • Public clubs
Clubs that anyone can see and participate in without joining.
  • Open club
Clubs that anyone can see and join.
  • Closed club
Clubs that anyone can see in the directory, but joining must be approved by a Club Leader or Club Moderator. Non-club-members who view the club will only see the member list - not the recent activity or content areas.
  • Private club
Clubs that do not show in public, and users must be invited by a Club Leader or Club Moderator

Content

Each club can have their own forums, download categories, blogs, and calendars.

Forums

Club owners can add forums where members can create topics. Club leaders and club moderators have control over these forums and can pin, lock, move, merge, and hide threads in these forums.

These screenshots depict a single forum "Topics".

Blogs

Project Pokémon recently got Blogs. With clubs, you can create a blog managed by the club leaders and club moderators.

Downloads

Clubs can also have files, similar to our downloads section.

Calendars

And finally, the calendar.

And who knows? Maybe there'll be something else in there too ;)

I’m curious as to what the file size limit will be in Clubs.  Can you expand on that topic?

Same file size as everywhere else, probably.

  • Members:
    • 10 MB per attachment
    • 500 MB per user
  • Developers/researchers/whoever else (might not be properly configured at the moment):
    • 50 MB per attachment
    • 2500 MB per user
  • Super Moderators and higher: unlimited

These limits are completely arbitrary, so if anyone needs more storage for legitimate reasons, they can be raised.

Wait, are Moderators and Admins able to moderate clubs?

Yes, but we're probably not going to keep as close of an eye on them as with the rest of the site. Clubs are sub-communities run by users (read: not us*), so it's the responsibility of the club leaders to moderate clubs. That said, site-wide rules still apply, and we will remove content that's obviously illegal or NSFW.

* I intend to run one or more clubs, but at that point I won't really be representing Project Pokémon staff as much as I will be representing the club.
