Intro

This page is concerning shiny pokemon. Information on these rare creatures is scattered about all over the web. I thought that it might be a good idea to have this information located in one place for our users.

What are shiny Pokemon?

Shiny Pokemon are Pokemon with a different color scheme then normal ones. They are extremely rare and commonly sought after because of their rarity. Shiny Pokemon have a different color scheme and are different from other shiny Pokemon. A shiny Drifloon would not have the same colors as a shiny Pikachu, for example. A shiny Drifloon is yellow where it would normally be purple, and blue where it would normally be. A shiny pikachu is red instead of yellow.

Where do you find shiny pokemon?

There is no location, throughout any of the games, that has a higher rate of shiny pokemon. This is a commonly asked question for, people want shiny pokemon, so they want to increase there chances of finding one by going to an area where the percentage of shiny populace is higher, however, this is not so and a place like this does not exist.

What are the chances of me finding a shiny?

Not good to say the least. The exact number is 1/8192 so not very good odds. Most people have never encountered a shiny pokemon, some few unlucky folks have encountered shiny trainer pokemon and they could not catch them. I think, that it would be the absolute worst to see a shiny pokemon belong to another in game trainer.

Is there a way to increase those horrible chances?

The answer to that is....yes! Through chaining pokemon, the only catch is, you have to have a pokeradar which requires you, at least in D/P/Pt to complete the sinnoh dex and then talk to dawn. She should give you the pokeradar and she should show you how to use it. You will also need a certain poketch application to track your training. I believe it is the one with the stands of first second and third. Then there is a window above that with a pokemon you saw in the pokeradar and then a number of how many times. That number represents the times in a row for that is chaining. If you chain a pokemon 40 times your odds go from 1/8192 to 1/200. That is much better odds!

How exactly do I chain pokemon?

Well I mentioned earlier that you need a pokeradar and a certain poketch app. to track your chaining. I described the app in the paragraph above so there is no need to describe it again. I forget what it is called so sorry. Chaining is actually fairly simple, you just cant mess it up by encountering another pokemon. I will show it in steps.

  • obtain the pokeradar from dawn
    • obtain the certain poketch app I believe from the guy in jubilife who gives them
      • go to the any store and buy as many repels/super repels/max repels as possible!
        • Got to the route where your favorite pokemon is usually located
          • Use the repel
            • Use the pokeradar and go to any grass patch that moved/flashed
              • Make sure to note whether the patch you went into just moved or whether or not it flashed
                • if it isn't a shiny kill that pokemon so that the pokeradar will stay active
                  • Then when the pokeradar goes again after the battle go into the same type of patch that you went into last time and make sure it is the farthest possible away because then the chances of you getting the same pokemon you did last time and continuing the chain are almost guaranteed.
                    • Keep doing this until you reach 40 after that if you still cant find a shiny you either keep the chain going (it wont increase odds) or restart it.
                      • Make sure to keep using repels as soon as the other one wears off otherwise a random wild pokemon could mess up your whole chain

types of patches

basic ones-basic ones are the ones that just move
Flashing ones-they flash for not even a second
Shiny ones!-these are the patches that flash except for a longer time these are the ones you are looking for, so for your first patch I'd try to make sure that it is a flashing one so that you dont need to get mixed up between the other patches and you could stumble upon a shiny one easier because flashers and shinies are hard to distinguish apart.

What about legendaries?

Well, legendaries, unfortunately have no way of ever using chaining to increase the odds of shinyness. So then you are going to have to soft reset until it is shiny or cheat. So save the game before enounterment of legendary, then talk to it, battle, if not shiny soft reset your game and do it till shiny.

What is soft reset?

Soft reset is resetting your game so you go back to your last saving point. Of course that is what turning on and off does but this is quicker.

How do you do soft reset?

L+R+select+start or L+R+start+select. I'm not sure which one it is.
