Pokémon Platinum is a Generation IV main series Pokémon game. It follows Pokémon Diamond and Pearl like Pokémon Yellow, Crystal, and Emarald in previous generations, containing the same basic gameplay mechanics, gym badges, and adventure as Diamond and Pearl. In addition, Platinum also introduces new features, enhancements, and locations, as well as a different story arc featuring Giratina. It was released in Japan on September 13, 2008, and in North America on March 22, 2009. It will release in Europe on May 22, 2009 and in Australia on May 14.
Pokémon Platinum introduces several new locations such as the Distortion World (where Giratina now resides), a location that makes extensive use of the DS's 3D capabilities. It also includes the Battle Frontier with several areas focusing on Pokémon battling, and a WiFi plaza with access to multiplayer minigames. Other minor changes include different outfits for the main characters and different gyms.
