Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are the first two games in Generation IV, and are main series Pokémon RPGs developed by Game Freak for the Nintendo DS. They feature an all-new adventure that takes place in the region of Sinnoh. The two games were released simultaneously in Japan in 2006 and in other regions in 2007. Diamond and Pearl brings new gameplay mechanics and features to Pokémon, such as WiFi trading and battling (including the online Global Trade Station), the Pokétch, the Underground, a redefined split between physical and special attacks, and the reintroduction of the day and night cycle. The generation also adds 107 new Pokémon, bringing the total number of known Pokémon species to 493. There are only minor differences between Diamond and Pearl - each version has its own exclusive Pokémon.
The games follow the main character, either Lucas or Dawn, through a journey across the Sinnoh region. Like previous Pokémon RPGs, there are eight gym badges to collect (followed by the Elite Four) and an evil organization, Team Galactic, to defeat.
