Thread: Hacking in Tournaments

    Hacking in Tournaments

So, although im sure this is a somewhat touchy issue, has anyone ever used a hacked pokemon in a tournament, or does anyone know someone who has? How common is this?

Also, do we know how exactly Nintendo checks the legitimacy of pokemon entered in tournaments? And does a legit pokemon, by definition, pass those tests, even if it has been created by a program such as pokesav? (I'm referring to http://projectpokemon.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Legality)

I'm curious how unfair the tournaments are in general

    Thanks all!

I'm pretty sure I saw at least someone post that they used hacked Pokémon in last year's Tourney.

And of course legit Pokémon past the tests. But you're referring to legal, and they do too. If they weren't legal, they wouldn't pass the test. It's the whole point of being legal, they're identical to legit Pokémon. I'm not really sure how common it is though. There will always be cheaters, either way.

ah, thank you, of course I meant legal, wasnt thinking, term confused

also, are the pokemon save files completely isolated from the game save? like, if I caught a legit pokemon in the wild on a game save where I had hacked all over the place (badges, pokemon, location, contests, whatever) and traded it to a perfectly clean game, would there be any evidence of foul play on the clean game at all? Does anything transfer over with the trade or the pokemon, any record of any sort?
    thanks

    Quick Question:
Are you able to use an Flash Cart device, or will they reject it.

Last I checked, emulating was illegal anyways.
So on top of a definite no and getting booted on the spot for not having

Lemme rephrase that: emulating Nintendo's stuff to use in their tournament isn't exactly gonna be kosher with them.

I've never been to a tournament before, but the best Official Nintendo legality checker we have is Pokemon Battle Revolution. If you can get online with your team and if out Legality Checker says everything is good, you should be fine.

Last time I checked ripping a ROM off of your own cart and using it on a device you also use for homebrew and extra convenience was ok by anyone's standards.

True, but you have no way of confirming that. Your ROM is identical to everyone else's Platinum Cart.

legal is a term we invented. To Nintendo, there's only legit and illegal.
