Somebody who knows something about the Gen 1/2 Save File Markup?

Hello there, members of Project Pokemon.

I was wondering if somebody would know a bit more about the way information is stored in the Save Files for Pokémon Red,Blue, Yellow and Gold, Silver Crystal. There is an article on Bulbapedia about it, but it is a stub.
I want to try to make some kind of teambuilder for the Gen 1/2 games, and I was wondering if somebody did already knew how these files are made up, so I don't have to re-invent the wheel. I know there are a few RBY/GSC teambuilders out there, but as far as I know, none of them are OpenSource.

Any help would be appreciated,
