  1. I'm not sure exactly how to do that. And basically an area of the map crashed, so if i tried to enter say a part of chargestone cave it would freeze the game. How would i go about repointing the header? and also how do i know where said hex script began and ended. By the way i was modifying scripts in the overworld narc if that helps any

I've seen your tutorials and understand that, however for someone new to gen 5 rom hacking, they are awesome to look at and inspiring, however most of them go completely over my head, as I'm sure with a few other people (because they are simple for you, but advance for us). The tutorial here actually explained what the scripting function of each hex string did, which was not present in the video. Where in a few videos we were given the actual script to place, most of us look at it like...what am i supposed to do with it. Yes I could have deciphered the script that you gave, however it would have taken a very long time to figure out how it functioned down to a science. Also I don't understand how to replace a script within the hex. I've tried doing so which led to the game freezing, reason I wanted to clarify instead of repeated trial and error until I found a breakthrough.
  3. Will there be any more continuation of the previous tutorial? I would love to learn more commands. I think this is the 2nd week since I started hacking gen 5 roms and I'm starting to grasp the concept a lot faster now that I've reviewed this tutorial. I think the main thing I need reinforced is actually plugging scripted hex into an overworld without causing the rom to crash lol. But if I'm assuming correctly, I just look for a 2E 00 to 02 00 hex string to replace with a newly written script correct?
  4. This may seem like a stupid question, but is there a version of this out yet that works for pokemon black 2? I've tried ppre 2.2.0 but that actually is more limited in what you can do with both newer and the older roms, whereas beta .14 has allowed me to view basically everything in heartgold with ease.
  5. Hmm, I'll try to remember what exactly I did so I can detail it. Basically I opened an overworld to edit, a house at the beginning of the game north of the hero's house. I would go inside that house and open the overworld in the npce. After that I would ADD a new npc and set the coordinates of where i wanted a character to appear, (say...x 1 y 1) and basically clone one of the characters in the room, using their script, facing, and everything but their ID number. I would set a new ID number, 3 in this case since this was the 3rd npc in the room. After that I would reinsert the narc, save outside the house. Reset the rom and enter the house. Each time I enter the house, the game would crash.
  6. Okay, now that I've furthered my knowledge in Hex and replaced a few starters, I wanted to try to figure out what is going on with the npce. Is anyone else having issues with game freezes after adding an npc? I was able to move npcs earlier in learning npce, but haven't tried since. When I went to add a new npc to the overworld map, my game would freeze. (I'd be in an outside location and go inside to the place where the npc was added and the game will freeze)
  7. I'm pretty sure the above trick is only used for the japanese versions. And I've experienced the same issue, so I'm not sure if it's a general bug or not, but the US roms can't be editted like that. I've even remade the narc file but still have the same issue, just with 2 pokemon showing up instead.
  8. I think this is simply amazing how it actually finds the things within the narc files for you so that you don't have to keep going back into your notes just to find what's where lol. But does it have a actual script editor? I downloaded the newest version I think PPRE 2.2.0 and I can only edit moves, pokemon and text
  9. And also, I have not gotten far on my pokemon black 2 rom because I've been more concerned with learning the code. i was wondering was it possible for someone to upload a ds1 save file that I could use to test scripted events in different areas of the game please?

Would it be safe to assume that inserting a scripted file into hex (using say notepad) and having it converted by the hex editor would suffice in actually replacing the previous script on the page? so say i script something to occur one time once a character steps onto idk... x 1 y 1 of an overworld location and plug it into the hex editor which converts it to numbers then insert the narc file...would that work?
  11. Well I understand scripting. I was working on and programming a MUD for a short while, however Hex Editing is where I run into my weak point, for it's a different concept. If I got a simple run down of how Hex was setup then I would understand things a bit better. As everything I have learned up until this point has basically been self taught due to trial and error, but hexing is a bit more troublesome. Sure I could play around and cut scripts and reboot the room until i figure out what is what, but that would take way too long and I'd rather be pointed in the right direction before going down that path.

Okay from what I remember I believe it was overworld 169 (so the first town in what i believe is the first house north of your own) Basically i opened the NPCE and managed to move the first npc (the female in the chair) to the position x: 1 y: 1 which is in the left upper hand corner of that room. After which I decided to ADD my own sprite and rebooted the game to see if it worked. When i reentered the house the game froze. As for the Hex editing, I was watching the videos and I got to the part where I was analyzing the hex, but I honestly am quite confused as to how one knows where the hex "script" begins and ends for the "scripts" within the room. I wouldn't mind learning a bit more, however tutorials are limited to certain areas when it comes to gen 5 hacking

Yet when I went to add an overworld sprite to the area in a location that was uninhabited the game froze each time i entered the room. I was wondering what was the reason for this and how can i from now on successfully add these. Thanks in advance Maleficusu P.S. And also if anyone knows how to script an overworld with a unique script without relying on Hex Editor, that would be divine
